Hunter came through his ear surgery just fine Monday morning. For those of you who didn't know, he had fluid drained and tubes put in both ears. We've been struggling for the past two years with repeated ear infections in his right ear. His family doctor was hopeful that he would outgrow this problem by the time he turned 3. In June (the month he turned 3) we were seen for yet another ear infection, so we were referred to a very nice ENT doctor whose recommendation was tubes. So Monday was the big day. Sorry there are no pictures with this. Even though he did look adorable in his little hospital gown and John Deere slippers, Mom was too much a bundle of nerves to even think about taking the camera with us.
The pre-op preparations were actually the toughest part, especially since I forgot to prep him for wearing a surgical gown instead of his pajamas. For those of you who currently have or remember having 3 year olds, they suddenly have strong opinions and new, quick changes don't always go over so well. We had a great nurse though who put him so much at ease that he actually walked off with her to the OR without one complaint because she made it out to be a big adventure with a magic door and a balloon to blow up.
The surgery was very fast. We talked to the doctor post-op 15 minutes after we watched Hunter walk away from us. He did succeed in giving the anesthegeologist (not sure if that is spelled correctly) a good chuckle. As he was waking Hunter up, he said Hunter's eyes flicked open a little and he said, "Now can we go to Pizza Hut?" Hunter was quite disappointed to truly wake up to find it was only 8:00am and Pizza Hut was not open yet. Sorry Kiddo!!
