Easter Traditions

This year was great to continue some meaningful activities during Holy Week that we started last year.  The first couple things really help teach Jesus' last week and the story of the cross and resurrection in fun ways.  So tradition #1 was Resurrection Rolls.  We took a marshmallow signifying Christ and his purity, talk about him dying on the cross for our sins, and then how the women used oils (butter) and spices (cinnamon and sugar) to prepare his body.  Then Jesus was sealed in the tomb (a crescent roll) for 3 days (actually 12-13 minutes in the oven).  Finally, we opened the tomb (roll) to find that Jesus (marshmallow) was no longer there.  He is risen, and we have a yummy breakfast to enjoy as well.

The tomb is empty; Jesus is Alive!!!

Tradition #2 is Resurrection Eggs:  I made these in a MOPS group the year after Hunter was born, and we have used them ever since.  Egg #1 starts with a palm branch and tells the story of Christ's triumphant entry into Jerusalem.  Each egg has something different inside telling of Judas' betrayal, the last supper, being nailed to the cross, and the final one is emptying signifying the empty tomb.  This year Hunter couldn't wait to open the eggs each day and we would daily add more details to the Easter story.  It was great for both of us

Tradition #3 the brand new shirt and tie for Sunday morning - Spiffy!

Tradition#4  Hunting Easter eggs at the Schaetzles:  This year it was nice enough to hunt the eggs out in the backyard area - Yay!!!  Grandma and Grandpa hide coins and little candies inside, so that makes it extra fun!

Egg Coloring

Saturday, we got together with Scott's side of the family to color Easter eggs and just hang out.  As you can see the girls and Hunter colored eggs, and the boys watched baseball on tv.  We each brought a dozen + eggs to color, so it was really quite a big job.  Hunter was a trooper though.  He sat there and colored eggs for over an hour and a half. (When he is interested, his attention span surprises me!)

Hannah really just wanted to throw or eat the eggs.

The final eggs are always reserved for the boys to make their "special" eggs, meaning they just keep dipping from color to color and see who can make theirs the ugliest brown/gray/green/black-ish color.

Proud of the finished product.
