Ag Days

Last Friday, my friend and I took our boys to the "Ag Days" in the next county north of us.  It was very nicely set up, quite educational, and best of all, free.  Our boys really loved it.  Even though they are both country boys who have been around farms and gardens their whole lives, they still learned some things.  They really liked watching a sheep being sheared and milking a cow, which were both new experiences for them.  Hunter said his favorite thing of all was the baby pigs.  They were very little, soft and cute!
Saying hello to a pony

Petting the two baby pigs - a favorite that was easy to keep coming back to since they were in a big wooden box in the middle of the barn.

Two buddies - a cow and a very silly scarecrow

At the end you could turn in your basket of crops that you collected at each farm and "buy" a milk and cookie at the market.  We enjoyed the fruits of our labors (ha,ha).

Hunter was trying so hard to milk the cow, but just couldn't get it.  Once I shut the camera off, I showed him how to pull down as he squeezed.  Then he got the hang of it, but I didn't have the camera on to catch it.

Harvesting Helpers

A little over a week ago, Hunter again got the opportunity to ride the combine harvester with our farmer friend up to road.  On the day that worked, Hunter had a friend over, who had never been in a combine before.  They just loved it.  Thankfully they got to go once down and back the really long field and get a full load before the air filter needed changing in the combine.  It was about a 15-20 minute ride and provided a good stopping point (or I'm sure we would have been there all afternoon).

It was a big hit and a good memory made with a friend.

Birthday Lunch at Grandpa's Work

Ever since Hunter was just a baby, I've been taking him in to eat lunch with Grandpa Neild at least once a month. The guys that Grandpa eats lunch with have kind of taken to spoiling Hunter, especially Mr. Randy who treats him like Hunter was his own grandkid. Of course, Hunter loves the attention. What three year old wouldn't? So they asked if I could bring Hunter in on Thursday for an early birthday lunch. They had a John Deere cake. Mr. Randy gave Hunter a cowboy hat, a couple of bright orange cap guns with a holster, and a few thousand caps. Mr. Mike downloaded the "I want to be a cowboy" song for him too. Hunter was thrilled (and I have been shot many times in the last 24 hours). He walks around the house shooting at everything and singing, "I got my boots.....dusty. I want to be a cowboy, and you can be the cowgirl." (These are the two lines he can remember.) I have already found a couple of websites to order caps from because I think we have already used almost one thousand of them. Hopefully the ammo usage will slow down a little as the newness wears off, or this kid might have to find himself a part time job (ha,ha).

The video shows when Hunter first realized that these guns "shot bullets".

Rainy Day Playdate

Today, we went to the Sommer's house for a playdate. Hunter was so excited to go play at Kaylee's house that he even let me comb his hair with no battles. Melissa and her kids also came over. Linna made scrumptious food which everyone enjoyed. It was fun for me to sit and chat with other Mommies like semi-normal adults while the kids all played. One funny story...Now although at the time I had to control my mirth. Hunter told Brock that he didn't like Brock's hair (cuz it was curly, I guess). I promptly told Hunter to apologize which he didn't want to do. After a standoff of 2 or 3 minutes, he finally turns to Brock and says, "I'm sorry I don't like your hair." I quickly bit my lip and explained the apology needed to be for saying something unkind. He did finally give an adequate apology while on the inside I was laughing at a typical way-to-truthful toddler.

He also came home saying he would like a baby sister like Kaylee has. Oh, the peer pressure. Of course, he would because Allie is so cute and slept almost the whole time we were there. Hunter was quite interested in her little feet and the whole diaper changing process. From his mouth to God's ear, I guess.
