Last spring, Hunter planted some sunflower seeds at the edge of our garden. He did all the work on these (with a little help from Mom) and now loves to see the results. It is especially neat because the flowers are as tall or taller than he is. He is also enjoying helping Mom pick tomatoes and corn and pull up carrots. We are still working on how to tell when things are ripe and ready to pick. Lucky for mom it doesn't really matter if some green cherry tomatoes are picked since we have so many. However our watermelons now have gray duct tape patches. Apparently since Hunter saw Mom thumping them with her fist he thought he should thump them too. However he used some little metal rod he dug out of the machine shed or somewhere (who knows where this kid finds his "tools"). Dad was not too happy to see each watermelon had a couple of little dents in the rind. He was sure they were done for because now bugs would continue damaging them. Mom (who thought Maguiver was cute as she was growing up) quickly covered all the dentmarks with big squares of duct tape. We'll see if it helps.
