The Big One

Well today was a very big day in our house, and I couldn't let it go by without saying something on the bloggy. It is Scott's 40th birthday. We actually didn't do too much to celebrate it because we are having a big party on Saturday, but Hunter made him a card and then proceeded to stand right beside the driveway holding it up like a sign for Scott as he drove in the driveway after work. Hunter did all the writing too, so I was very proud of him. I am so thankful for Scott and the godly husband and father that he tries to be. I promised to be nice to him about this one cuz he is struggling a little bit with it, I think. I can't blame him. In fact I remember being a precocious teenager and making my dad a cake that said "Over the hill is better than under it" and throwing a surprise party. I now realize, with the wisdom that comes with getting closer and closer to that same age, how awful and mean that was. (Dad, this is my official apology.) I don't feel like my husband and I are middle-age. I feel like we are still young like I should be just done with college or something. Part of that probably comes from not being married all that long and still in the process of raising a young and growing (hopefully) family. Who knows? More than anything, it has convinced me that age is just a number, but your health and where you are at in life really help determine how old you are or at least how old you feel. I wonder, will we be sixty and not feel a day over 35? All that aside, Happy Birthday, Honey, I love you!!

Besides all that we have been really busy the past two weeks. The dry wall is all done in the addition. They will be blowing the insulation in to the attic tomorrow, and I'm supposed to go next week to pick out the stone for our fireplace and bring the mantle they ordered home for Scott to stain. I went to two mother/daughter dinners last week, and I also decorated a cake for a gal my dad works with this week. Hopefully things will slow down next week but I have a feeling that this is just the beginning of a very fast-paced summer.

Hunter with some funny teeth he found when we were cleaning out some old stuff.

The cake I made for the gal my dad works with. They are always teasing her about being Smurfette since she is the only girl and runs the roost with all those guys.

Didn't you make one of us a Smurf cake when we were kids? This one looks great.
