Jack O'Lanterns

Last night we finally got around to carving up out pumpkins. I was a little surprised at how much Shelby really enjoyed it.  At first she was a little squeamish about the inside goop, but it didn't take her long to pull stuff out like a true champion.  Of course big brother's example always helps in these situations.  Listen carefully in the video though for her funny little expression everytime she pulled out a handful of stuff.  Then mom helped carve out a pretty simple face with Shelby while Hunter picked out this challenging howling wolves scene from a pumpkin carving book that he wanted to do with Dad.  Who makes those books for kids anyway because most of those patterns are NOT something a six year old can do on their own?! So Hunter took some turns carving Shelby's pumpkin face while Dad did a lot of the wolves.  But they both turned out great and the kids LOVED lighting them up on the deck and shutting off the lights to watch them glow!

Carving out the eye - she's good, isn't she?

Even Dad was full of concentration
