Jack O'lantern Fun

Dad and Hunter getting his pumpkin cleaned out.

Rylee and Uncle Chad cleaning out her pumpkin.

Last night we had our annual pumpkin carving night at our house. I guess this has now become tradition since we have done it for the last four years. I was told we have the garden and grow nice pumpkins so that is how this Schaetzle family night has come into being. Anyway, Scott's family all came over to create jack o'lanterns. Hunter (with a lot of help from Dad), Cousin Rylee, Uncle Chad, and Mom all carved nice pumpkins. Luckily for the rest of us, Hunter loved the slimy, gooey insides and helped all of us clean our pumpkins out. His arms were covered with orange slime just about up to his arm pits by the time he was finished. Then he insisted on carving out a spider on a web from a pattern in a pumpkin carving kit that Grandma Neild had given us. (By the way, Scott REALLY thanks you for that book. I'm sure you will hear about it, Grandma, and it may get hidden by next fall.) Well, the pattern was really too small for the giant pumpkin Hunter had picked out, so Mom had to freehand it onto the pumpkin with a marker. Then Dad painstakingly cut it out and lit it up. Hunter proclaimed it "SO COOL!" which I think made all Scott's grumbling and efforts worth it. The second pumpkin in the picture is the one Mom cut out. NO spiders for me...just a fun, happy face. Hunter asked if he could take them up to his room to sleep with them last night, so they must be a hit! Then we all sat around eating pie and enjoying each others company in loud family fashion. I thank the Lord for families that enjoy spending time together on each side.

The Final Product

Hunter's (and Dad's) Spider/web and Mom's grinning guy.
