Family Time

Today we decided to spend some time together as a family doing something Hunter would enjoy. We went to the New York Central Railroad Museum in Elkhart. It was a surprise, and Boy was HE EXCITED when we pulled in. It's a small museum mostly run by volunteers probably geared more towards adult enthusiasts, but there were a few hands-on things for kids too. We basically had the place to ourselves which was really good for an over-excited 3 year old. It had a dining car we could sit in, a really nice model railroad set up with 3 or 4 different kinds of trains running, a "Gandy-Dancer" exhibit where you could put the ties and rails down and hammer in the spikes, and even a Thomas train table to play at. Outside it had an old engine that you could climb inside and wiggle all the throttles, levers, horns, etc.; 2 old cabooses you could climb inside, and various different kinds of cars from hoppers to a breakdown crane. Needless to say, our little train enthusiast had a great time.

Dad and Hunter "driving" the big engine.
Blowing the horn.
